From Creating Space at Home to Creating Clarity in Health

For many years, Joy & Space has been about helping people create calmer, more intentional environments in their homes and daily lives. Through organizing, movement, and yoga, my goal has always been the same: to help people feel more grounded and supported during times of transition.

Recently, my professional life has expanded in a direction that is closely aligned with that same purpose. I completed my training as a Licensed Genetic Counselor, and my work now focuses on helping individuals and families understand their hereditary risk for cancer and make informed decisions about screening, prevention, and genetic testing.

At first glance, home organizing, yoga, and genetic counseling might seem like very different fields. But for me, they share a common thread.

Each involves helping people navigate complexity.

Sometimes that complexity looks like a home filled with too many things and not enough time or energy to sort through them. Other times it looks like a family history of cancer, medical terminology, and difficult decisions about testing or prevention.

In both cases, people often feel overwhelmed at the beginning.

And in both cases, the work begins with creating clarity.

Genetic counseling involves reviewing personal and family medical history, discussing the role genetics can play in cancer risk, and helping people understand what genetic testing may or may not tell them. It’s a process that combines science, education, and counseling to help individuals make decisions that feel informed and appropriate for their own circumstances.

While my clinical work takes place in a healthcare setting, the perspective I’ve developed through Joy & Space continues to shape how I approach conversations with patients and families. The same skills that help people move through change in their homes—patience, thoughtful decision-making, and creating space to reflect—are also valuable when navigating health decisions.

Joy & Space will continue to be a place where I share ideas about organizing, yoga, and creating supportive environments for everyday life. At the same time, you may occasionally see posts that touch on my work in genetic counseling and hereditary cancer education, particularly as these topics intersect with well-being, resilience, and navigating life transitions.
